Interview with our partners at INSA Lyon & Deltares on “Where two worlds meet: metrology and urban drainage”
Tuesday 8 February 2022, the Source Magazine published an interview of Jean-Luc Bertrand-Krajewski, Mathieu Lepot, and Francois Clemens about their book entitled “Metrology in Urban Drainage and Stormwater Management: Plug and Pray”. Let’s find out more!
Published in August 2021 by IWA Publishing, “Metrology in Urban Drainage and Stormwater Management: Plug and Pray” is an eBook that was edited by three experts from our Consortium:
- Jean-Luc Bertrand-Krajewski, a Professor of Urban Hydrology at the National Institute of Applied Sciences (INSA) Lyon;
- Francois Clemens a Professor of Urban Drainage at Delft University of Technology and senior researcher at Deltares;
- Mathieu Lepot, a researcher on urban drainage at INSA Lyon.
This book presents the advancements made in applied metrology in the field of Urban Drainage and Storm water Management over the past two decades in scientific research as well as in practical applications.
Given the broadness of this subject (measuring principles, uncertainty in data, data validation, data storage and communication, design, maintenance and management of monitoring networks, technical details of sensor technology), the focus is on water quantity and a sound metrological basis.
The book offers common ground for academics and practitioners when setting up monitoring projects in urban drainage and Storm water management.
In-depth descriptions of international case studies covering all aspects discussed in the book are presented, along with numerous detailed examples, corresponding open-source codes, and training files.
The eBook is available in open access and can be downloaded here.
In this interview, Jean-Luc Bertrand-Krajewski, Mathieu Lepot, and Francois Clemens talk about the issues and challenges the book has sought to address and the huge collaborative effort that has brought these insights together.
