Co-UDlabs webinar on µFTIR chemical mapping

Aalborg University, a partner in the Co-UDlabs INFRAIA project, will hold — on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, at 14:00 CEST — an introductory webinar on the principles of FTIR spectroscopy and microscopy, as well as µFTIR-Imaging analysis.

The urban water cycle today is subjected to combined pollution from both dissolved chemicals and particulate pollutants. Micro-plastics (MPs) are an emerging particulate pollutant that widely affects urban water systems, contributing to sources and pathways for plastic pollution to reach the water network and, ultimately, the sea. Monitoring micro-plastics is a novel and challenging task, and accurate analytics are becoming increasingly essential.

Fourier Transform Infrared Micro-Spectroscopy (FTIR) combined with hyperspectral imaging (µFTIR-Imaging) is a powerful tool to assess micro-plastic pollution in urban water networks. This analytical tool, moreover, can be used to detect a wide range of organic and inorganic compounds and materials.

The one-hour webinar will focus on real-life application of this technique to the analysis of micro-plastics and other synthetic micro-particles in urban networks and different environmental matrices.

The webinar will be freely accessible on Teams, but registration is required: you can easily register online!
